– Smoked ham (8 slices, the deli fresh shaved is preferred)

– Water (1 tablespoon)
– 1 egg
– A sheet of frozen puff pastry (a half of 17 thawed 1/4 –ounce package)

The following steps are then followed:
- The oven is preheated to more than 400 degree Fahrenheit. Parchment is used to cover the baking sheet.
- The water and the egg should be beaten until they blend and set aside.
- The pastry is then unfolded on a surface that is lightly floured and rolled into a 10-by-14-inch rectangle, then cutting is done lengthwise (into half.)
- Then both of the pastry halves are the brushed using the egg mixture.
- The cheese (3 tablespoons) and the pepper is then evenly sprinkled over one of the pieces and then covered using ham slices.
- The remaining pastry piece is then placed egg-side down on top of the ham and rolled gently using a rolling pin so that it can seal. Additional brushing is done using the egg mixture.
- By making one of the sides (the long one) the starting point, it’s tightly rolled into a 14-inch log. The log is then cut crosswise to form 24 slices and then the slice are placed on the baking sheet and cut sides down.
- The slices are then brushed using the remaining egg mixture and one tablespoon of the remaining cheese is sprinkled on it.
- The baking should be done for 12-14 minutes until it turns golden brown. It can be served at room temperature or warm.
