I have come to realize that I have put a lot of effort in the preparation of my backyard, my front entrance, even my kitchen, leaving out this important room known as the bathroom.

There are a number of ways of rehabilitating my bathroom. If some creativity is required, I will have to get into the garage and revive some old junk, just to add some new and flashy bathroom features, the same way some projects are done.

One very remarkable upcycle project that I came across with is the one on The House of Smith. On this project, Shelly Smith employs some outdated doorknobs and a picture frame which is old to totally renovate the interior decoration of her bathroom. What a creative project that doesn’t dent one’s pockets.

Instead of spending lots of money on extravagant molding, she decided to invent her own mold, which the end results turned out to be eye pleasing. To me it seems a perfect option, and definitely I am going to try out this very project in my own house!

Initially, Shelley and her husband Carson planned to only transform their bathroom by creating a stunning towel hanger out of old doorknobs. But when they held up the knob hangers, Shelley writes “we stood back and knew we needed something else. So we decided on some picture frame molding!”

Shelly says, “One of Carson’s friends told him to draw the actual lines on the wall where the molding would go. Genius! It worked wonders!”

Shelley and Carson took an old picture frame and cut it at 45-degree angles in each of the corners.

Once the pieces were cut out, it was easy to apply them to the wall. “We used liquid nails and some regular old tape to keep them in place while they dried.”

Because they smartly used liquid nails, they didn’t have to worry about going back later and filling any nail holes. The picture frame was already looking like it would make for some beautiful molding!

Shelley loved the combination of the doorknob towel hangers and the picture frame molding. But she writes, “Something was missing… cue the vinyl!”

They decided to spruce things up even more by applying a vinyl decal to the middle of the molding. Shelley went with a pretty powder blue design because it matched the rest of her bathroom.

“Once I had the whole decal peeled up, I applied it to the wall by smoothing it down from the top to the bottom.”

While Shelley used a vinyl applicator tool to smooth out all of the bumps, she notes that using a spatula or a credit card would work just as well!

They then peeled off the transfer tape, leaving a gorgeous decal detail on the wall.

Shelley and Carson were thrilled with the results! She writes, “It just adds that extra touch that I was going for! Loooove it!”

In no time at all, Shelley and Carson had transformed their bathroom by upcycling some old doorknobs and picture frames. Such a beautiful addition to their home!
