Learn How To Stop Thieves From Robbing Your Stash From The Door…

If you are tired of thieves robbing your stash, then this is the ultimate solution for you.

#1 How To Make A ‘Doortop Stash’ Hiding Place

The needed materials are:
1- Nut, hex threaded to fit a machine screw
1- Cigar tube, aluminum, 3/4′ x 6′ length
1- Machine screw, small flat head, head should be 1/4′ diameter, total length about 1/2′
1- Washer, Split, 3/16′
1- Washer, Flat, 1/2′ x 3/16′
1- Washer, Flat, 1’x 3/16′

Proceed as follows:

Clean off the cigar tube by Goofing-Off in a stainless steel bowl, preferably with a Scotch Brite pad works well!
Using a sharpie marker, mark the drilling point then drill cigar cap hole.

Countersink the washer by temporarily fixing the 1″ flat washer to a scrap of wood, nail it partially until the flat-head bolt sits flush against it, then remove the nails and recover the washer.

Assemble the cap by, guiding the bolt through the hole in the cigar tube lid, then threading the nut onto the bolt and tightening down using a nut driver on one side and a screwdriver on the other.

Select a hollow-core interior door to conceal your stash, such as a closet door. The recommended position for the stash is close to the door hinge.

It is ready to use now! To remove the stash, a small magnet can be used to easily lift the stash clear of the door.

 

#2 Clean Off Cigar Tube

The is an optional step, but for appearances, you can remove the painted label from the cigar tube. Goof-Off in a stainless steel bowl with a Scotch Brite pad works well!

#3 Drill Cigar Cap Hole

1) Mark the center of the cap with a Sharpie marker. 2) Put a small dimple on the mark with a thumbtack, to guide the drill. 3) Using a brad-point drill, drill a 1/8-3/16″ hole in the center of the cap where marked.

 

#4 Countersink Washer

1) Temporarily fix the 1″ flat washer to a a scrap of wood by driving three small nails around its rim. 2) Countersink the mounted washer slightly, so your flat-head bolt will sit flush against it. 3) Remove the nails and recover the washer.

 

#5 Assemble Cap

1) Put the bolt into the washer, and invert it on the benchtop. 2) Guide the bolt through the hole in the cigar tube lid. 3) Moisten the threads of the bolt with a dab of thread adhesive. 4) Finally, thread the nut onto the bolt and tighten down using a nut driver on one side and a screwdriver on the other. Avoid over tightening. 5) Set the cap aside and let the adhesive dry.

 

#6 Select A Hiding Place & Door

1) Select a hollow-core interior door to conceal your stash, such as a closet door. The recommended position for the stash is close to the door hinge. This allows the door to open or close easier, and the stash container is less likely to rattle.

 

#7 Mark & Drill Pilot Hole

1) Measure the thickness of the door, and mark the halfway point. 2) Being careful to keep the axis of the drill plumb, drill a 1/4″ pilot hole, as deep as you can, on the mark. A brad-point bit is less likely to wander. 3) Using a 1″ spade bit, with the pilot hole as a guide, counterbore a circular recess about 1/8″ deep in the top of the door. 4) The purpose of this recess is to provide clearance for the washer you mounted to the lid of the cigar tube, so it will sit flush with the top of the door.

#8 Drill & Shape Opening

1) Switch to a 3/4″ spade bit and, using the pilot hole as a guide, drill straight down into the door until your bit breaks through into the hollow space inside. This should be about 3-4″ down. 2) Use a rat-tail file to shape the opening to fit the tube.

#9 It’s Ready To Use!

1) The washer attached to the top of the stash should fit flush with the upper surface of the door. The fit should be loose enough to lift out easily, but not so loose as to rattle when the door is moved. How do you remove the stash?
