Recently, The Wall Street Journal published a study that fully explained the different types of benefits that a person can obtain from taking a 10, 20, 60 or 90 minute nap.

According to the experts, a 10-20 minute nap (aka power nap) can help an individual stay alert and provide the sufficient amount of energy to finish tasks. A 60 minute nap can help a lot when undertaking memory related tasks, while a 90 minute nap helps with the emotional, procedural and creative memory. (Both the 60 and the 90 minute naps are ideal for those individuals who live a fast paced life and for those who need to retain a lot of information on a daily basis.)

The experts also stated that when you take a nap that is longer than 30 minutes, you’ll fall into a deep sleep, which might take you longer to become fully awake from it, but once you do, the benefits of your long sleep will be greater than those obtained from a short sleep. But if for some reason you want to avoid going into a deep sleep, it is suggested that you just sleep slightly upright.

As you can tell, naps can definitely benefit certain areas of the brain, which canhelp you achieve many different things throughout the day, so the next time you feel like taking a nap–make sure to set your alarm to a time that benefits your lifestyle the most!
