Along with the cookware itself, cast iron cleaning is a traditional task that has been passed down from generationto generation.

A skillet can get rusty from time to time due to high usage or accidental dishwasher placement. Thankfully, this matter can be alleviated. You can opt to send your pans to a re-seasoner skillet pro, which can be a bit pricey, or opt for a more cheaper, and effective method of minimum fuss (below).

Requirements:

Raw potatoes
A bit of kosher salt
Old towel
A bit of unflavored Crisco

Process:
In your skillet, place some salt and then begin scrubbing it with a potato. In order to get a flat surface, cut the end off. Make sure that salt gets into every rust spot, and then go ahead and rinse. If necessary, you can go ahead and repeat. Dry the skillet. If you’re not yet satisfied, you may need to do the potato/salt and rinse cycle once more. Last but not least, rub the Crisco into your skillet.

After performing this process, never again wash your skillet with water and soap! After every use, just opt to clean it with a soap and towel.
